Gulf Coast Search and Rescue Public Safety Diving is considered to be all diving performed by members in support of police, fire, U.S. Government agencies, or local public safety agencies within their jurisdiction.

Our purpose is to:

*Ensure all diving operations are consistent in a manner that maximizes diver safety.

*Provide for the development of and implementations of guidelines that will enable each member to meet or exceed Public Safety Diving requirements in accordance with U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, Maritime Compliance Division, OSHA Standard 1910.401.

The success or failure of any search and recovery operation can be affected by many factors. Some are controlled such as equipment, training, and prepartation. Some are uncontrollable such as surface conditions, underwater visiblility, depth, bottom topography, bottom composition, vegetation, accessibility, tides, currents, accuracy of bearings, water tempature, pollution, obstacles, etc. all of which must be taken into concideration when planning a search.
